Are You New On Steemit? You Really Need To Chill.

Baby Steps Please.

Now I didn't plan to put up any posts today after a pretty busy day but here I am.

Baby Steps Please

So lately every receptive organ in my body has been bombarded with sobbing and whining.

I'm not going to try to sound like a sage and tell you what to do and how to act. The best I can and will be doing, is share my thoughts and experiences.

See, it is very normal to see a high paying post and be discouraged because you get pennies and a few cents for your own posts.

They say you should format your posts well and add pictures but after following all these instructions to the letter, you get just 5 upvotes! It's annoying right? I mean these "established" people do the same thing you do but then they go ahead to make huge amounts on their posts.

Ok I get you. Now let's pause for a moment.

You know what? If you made above $0.04 on your introductory post, you don't deserve to make all these complaints.

Yes, $0.04! That was what I made on my introduceyourself post about 4 months ago. If you check that post, you'll notice there was no proper formatting or pictures. Yes I was new and knew nothing about anything.

High paying posts made me want to learn everything I could about everything Steemit but even after everything, I still wasn't getting those high payouts.

Do You Know Why?

A quick check on the date these "authors of high paying posts" joined Steemit always did the trick.

Realistically, I don't (or shouldn't) expect to be on the same level with someone who joined at least a month before I did. Not to now talk of folks that joined a full six months before I knew what Steemit was.

These people have a headstart. You should recognize that fact.

So anytime I see a date earlier than January 2017, I remind myself that once I've spent the same number of months they've spent on here, and consistently put in work, I'd probably be earning as much as they currently earn.

What then do you do if Fi won't allow you to whine in peace?

Focus more on doing what you've been doing all along!

  • Write quality content,

  • use appropriate pictures,

  • use appropriate tags,

  • promote your posts in Steemit.chat (you don't expect people to magically know you exist on here),

  • interact with others by commenting on their posts,

  • stay positive.

Everything worth your while takes time! It takes time to get noticed. It takes time to get followers. It takes time to be successful.

Steemit is not a "get rich quick" scheme.

Steemit is social media and social media is hard work.

Steemit is blogging and blogging is hard work.

Steemit is a community and building a community requires hard work from every member.

Play your part, bid your time, and your breakout season (or post) would come so easily.

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

Awesome article! I am keeping positive and am on Day 5 on Steemit! :)

Enjoy every bit of the ride; both up and down. It's so much fun once you decide to see happenings as opportunities to learn.

Steem on! 💪

Thanks and I am on a mission to make something of this!

💪way to go! I wish you success.

This is a Great Post @fisteganos, upvote and follow!!

Thank you

This is a Great Post.... Thank You... gave me hope.. :-)

Keep at it! Don't quit. Soon enough, your hard work will start to pay off.

Hola. It is not the earnings of experienced 'posters' which cause frustration, it is the lack of votes. How often do you see the more experienced, reading 'newbies' work? I just see lots of 'postings'. Yes, we all have to learn and develop. However, when considerable effort gains only a few votes, it is frustrating! I do not expect to earn much at the moment as I am new. It would be appreciated by us 'newbies' if some interest could be shown by the 'betters'. It would at the very least feel that the effort is worthwhile. X

The same way you do not expect to earn more because you're new, is the same way you shouldn't expect a lot of eyeballs on your post because you're new! These things are connected and interwoven.

I understand what you're saying because I've been there but in truth, nobody owes anyone anything.

Frustrations are normal but you only let it stick if you've got that idea of instant gratification.

The key takeaway from all these is that EVERYTHING takes time. It's frustrating yes but give it time. Keep at it and learn from as many people as possible.

I take it you have not read any of my posts? - my point! I don't expect to be given anything, I will earn my reputation. Surely though, every 'newbie' should gain something positive from the experience. After all, do you not want Steemit to grow with contributors of good content? I just wanted to voice my concerns. Is Steemit not a welcoming community?

Oops! When I try to address these issues and I use "you", I don't really mean you specifically. Anyway trust me I get your points.

I take it you have not read any of my posts? - my point!

Now that we're interacting, of course I'd go ahead to check out your blog eventually. That's also my point - it's very difficult keeping track of the over 800 new accounts daily so you've got to make people notice you by doing things like this - interacting!

I'm hoping you understand my point now.

Steemit is an amazing community tho! And it's exciting to have all this influx of new folks on here.

Yes, I agree, thank you. I do interact fully (as much as I can in the time). I am learning, and from the more experienced. I will never be a really good 'poster' as I have not got the skill set. However, middle of the road will suit me. I will definitely follow your work as I can see that I will learn from you. X

Haha! Guess what I just noticed.

It was your post on pinklady that made this post be. So I actually read your post before knowing who you were lol.

Will be looking out for the next baking tutorial.

Have fun on Steemit. And please don't leave. We love you and want you to stay!

Hola, thank you, you are so kind. I should have posted yesterday but was not really in the mood! Will get on and write them today. I have decided to concentrate on my specialism and just blog the rest about my new life in Spain. I think the Tips are too rigid and take away from the rest of my work. I will continue to post Tips, as and when I think appropriate, but I will complete the second compilation of week's tips first. Again, thank you. X

Thanks for this ! I think newbies expect to make as much as some of us who have put in so much more of an investment. Things take time. They won't grow overnight.

I mean! Every one should know this. It takes time!

You're doing good dude - back in the old days the payouts were a lot bigger, but now I think any post that gets over $10 is doing pretty well...

You got me wondering, so I checked and found that this single post has earned more than my last 45 posts added together!

But what has really paid for me is all the stuff I've learned about crypto currencies here on Steemit.

this single post has earned more than my last 45 posts added together!

Haha! Same here trust me. If you check from two weeks ago.

But what has really paid for me is all the stuff I've learned about crypto currencies here on Steemit.

True!

Congratulations @fisteganos!

I read your title and thought "Oh No!!@fisteganos is about to put people on blast!". Very informative post. Yes, it takes work. But persistence pays off and slowly but surely you will build a following! You showed the Steemian Spirit by being helpful and supporting and exemplified why this community is so great.

Haha! I get really angry then try to sift through the anger till I find something constructive. There's no point blowing the entire house off lol.

Thanks 😊

great post. I am new and enjoying the platform so far. Thank you for sharing

Enjoy the platform! Learn all you can and keep doing what you love!

Thank you for this reminder <3 :)

Bright Blessings & Reiki Hugs!

You're welcome! And thanks a lot!!

Thanks! I joined months ago and never got on so I'm still a newbie. Learning is worth the effort!!

Mind sharing why you didn't "get on"?

Sure. I was overwhelmed with all I didn't know and we have our own business and things got really busy.

Oh now I get. Life happened.

It's great to have you back!

Thanks! It is really an awesome community and I have realized that I've been missing out! I will follow your posts.

Thanks!

Absolutely right. I've been posting daily since July of last year. It takes time and effort.

Wouldn't it be extremely foolish for me to expect us to earn the same? Lol.

It does take time and effort!

Thank you for the encouragement Sir! Let's strive hard! I am still a newbie here and this helps a lot.

Glad to know you find it useful. You're welcome.

Steem on and Steem strong 💪

When I first started freelancing, I read that it takes three years to know if your business will be successful or not. Three years of dedication and hard work. I'm prepared to take a long term approach to a Steemit as well, although in comparison, it's exciting to see that the veterans haven't been here more than a year and are already having great success.

Awesome motivation! Keep at it

Good advice! Thanks!

You're welcome! Your introductory post has some of the best pictures I've seen. Very nice.

Cheers! I'm glad you liked them!

Thanks!

Thanks for this awesome post!
I am new here! I really appreciate the info in this write up!

Glad to know the info has been useful to you.

This is some advice that I needed to be reminded of. Thanks for taking the time to craft this!

It's something I remind myself of every day and I thought I should share. I'm glad you found it useful.

Definitely. Patience (and diligence) is a virtue. I look forward to contributing here and seeing what more you have to share.

What a great mentality to have! Way to go!

Keep putting in the work and the rewards will show up.

Thanks I'm a newbie and haven't posted anything yet. Still trying to learn.

I promise you there's a lot to be learned. Just don't let it overwhelm you

Trying to keep positive thoughts. Just keep going.

Don't stop! Learn all you can. Choose quality over quantity and then interact with the community. You'll do great!

🍒 I like the fact that you took the time to address this subject, I'm sure as #newbies we want to get out there and earn as much as we can, but if keep on comparing ourselves with others that do better, we're not gonna feel good and as you said people get frustrated, so we just need to be patient and work hard, definitely :)

Exactly!

Yes, I am a newbie here. And I want to thank you for your post, it gives me the right expectation on the platform... After all, it is not that I am making very lousy posts that I am only making few cents (it is as expected for newbies). Hope to make steady improvements as I journey along in this platform. To all steemians who read this post, help a newbie like me make an encouraging start by doing what you can... Please upvote my posts or follow me @arnel I appreciate all your help. God bless us all and enjoy the rest of your day!

well written and formatted post

Thank you sir! 😊

it enlightens me, thanks you for sharing this knowledge <3

I'm glad the post has been of help to you. You're welcome

Superb! RS and UV ;-))

Very good, Thank you for this. As someone who is brand new pretty much, it does get a little discouraging writing posts and seeing pennies. You really put it into perspective and for that, you are awesome!

Oh wow. Nice words. Thank you.

No problem brother! The formatting is what makes it pop off. The title kills, it was hard to pass up lol!

Well said. So true, as I am also a newbie. Thanks!

Nice to have you here. Have fun.

I very much appreciated this post, being only in my first month on steemit. My baby steps falter on the path. But it is an interesting road to take, that's for sure. Daily I remind myself to focus on content. If I can provide people with interesting, thought provoking, and original content I'm doing my job as a writer. Content over currency! If along the way I generate some steem, so much the better. I'll be following your work.

Thanks fot the inspiration, I think now I am beginning to get where I fit on this platform. Your words have given me my identity. Cheer @fisteganos. Macstyly from Windsor, Ont. Canada

Wow. Thanks for your nice words.

Well I was offline like for 4 months, now I'm back and very positive!

Great to have you back! Being positive is the way to go!

Steem on.

Thanks!

I really appreciate these words of upliftment fisteganos. I'm new to steem it also and I really feel it is a good platform but just a somewhat challenging when you just start. However, I will take your words of advice and try to apply them from now on using steemit, thanks much!!!

It's true that it's very challenging at first but if you keep at it, you'd be fine. Well done!

Good info @fisteganos! Perseverance is a must and relationships need to be built. This takes time so have fun and enjoy the ride everyone.

True words!

Word! I am not robot

Okay... I think i'm a robot or maybe i'm more. All I know is that I've got superpowers 💪

Great article. Thank you for that.

Thanks for checking it out!

Lmao, sub received. Word heard too. Nice stuff.

Lmao. God knows it wasn't directed at you alone but being a good boy that you are, you've claimed the sub 😂

A great article full of positivity. This gives me hope to start my journey in steemit and be patient for good results to come.

Great!

Sound advice my friend and will take it to heart! Keep up the good work.

Thank you. I wish you the best.

great post, and will take on board your advice, I'm still learning and probably will still be in months to come, still got to get the hang of posting pics but I will get there

still got to get the hang of posting pics but I will get there

This reminds me of my second post here on Steemit. I was frustrated! It's easier now with the ability to tap some blue text and get your pictures out of the device.

Anyway, a quick google search should do the trick. People have written extensively on the issue.

Hang on and have fun.

thank you and I will be here for a long time, its great that you can just write about anything that's in your mind, I love writing and I have been told by a friend on here what to use to add pics so will be giving it a go shortly, i'm in no rush as I want to learn as I go along

Thanks man. Followed

Well said! Im new to steemit and in love with it! I will be sure to apply this!

Very sensible advice.

I'd like to think so too. Thanks

Nice post!

Thank you

Awesome post!! Thanks for sharing :)

Great post! And you know what? You are absolutely right. This weekend I created a post which costs me a lot of time to make. I added some nice pictures to it and I was really happy with the result. Guess what? Not even $0.50.

Someone in the comments was complaining that he did not make any money and I told him my post did not pay out as well. But I don't care so much. The post is there for anyone to see and will stay there. Some people will read it and follow me for it. And that is the way this works.
I build 300+ followers in 2 months. Most of my followers are #newbies because I am very active welcoming new people here. Their votes do not pay out that much, but eventally they will. I Stay active, create some content and don't worry about the payout. It will come eventually.

Their votes do not pay out that much, but eventually they will.

This right here is the plain truth! I'm happy you've got this understanding early on.

well-said!

Thank you. Very good advice for a novice. I have just become a Steemit , so very helpful.

Thanks a lot. It is my first day here:)

Great post! I'm brand new, (less than a week) and love the whole concept of Steemit and feel grateful for finding this community. Really appreciate your encouraging words. Anything worth doing is worth doing right, and doing something right takes time.

Love this! great inspirational post. Keep it up :)

Good advice. I've had the opposite problem, lol. Some of my early posts did well and now I'm getting a few cents per posts. Still, perseverance pays off. You've got a new follower.

Another great post-- you've said it about as well as it can be said. Added to my growing reference file of "helpful posts" for communicating with potential and new Steemians.

Wow! I'm highly honored and totally speechless.

100% right on, this is what I tell all new people as well. 👍🏻

Good! I think we all need to remind ourselves of this from time to time.

There are actually steemit members "gaming" the system and timing their blogs when they rightly assume payouts will be high. That's my opinion of course. But the recent payout stats someone posted over the weekend seemed to prove it. The move in bitcoin (and other crypto prices) generated a lot of interest on the main blog here. As Bitcoin rose, so did the price of STEEM. So all someone who has a large following already built at another social media site had to do was bring them here during that short period of "maxi" excitement and high STEEM value. If the steemit staff actually did further research I would bet they would find that the majority of high payouts went to bloggers who posted content about crypto currency...those with large followings already established of course. Personally I don't really care about payouts as I am here mainly to log my thoughts at one location. Payouts are "likely" being financed by those backing the site via their profits in Bitcoin or other cryptos. If that dries up this site likely dries up. Unless steemit comes up with some way to finance this experiment of course.

Nice article

💪
thank you
