Must Stop Spot for Kids in New Orleans

New Orleans is known for its historic French Quarter lined with restaurants, shopping, landmarks, cemeteries and intriguing folklore. With Mardi Gras upon us, you can be sure you will see many adults filling the streets holding an adult beverage of choice in one hand. Or, two hands if they are double fisting it! After all, New Orleans is one of the few places in the US where open container laws allow drinking outside. Which is great for us, but what about the kiddos?

Fear not, for there is a place you can go that will make the kids (and the parents) happy!

Mr Apple Candy Store at 201 N. Peters St, to be more specific. Sure, the sugar level may be extreme, but at least there is fresh fruit involved. Plus, the sheer size of these suckers will certainly keep the kids occupied. Also, who doesn't like food on a stick?

As we entered the shop, you could see the boys' eyes grow wider as they contemplated which decadent apple would be theirs. Mr. Apple's has a nice variety of choices, both in traditional candy or caramel dip. Toppings and chocolate are used generously here.

My youngest son didn't take long to choose, for he is a big fan of sprinkles. He selected a candy apple, dipped in white chocolate with rainbow sprinkles. He was very pleased to take it off of the cashier's hands.

My eldest son was a bit more indecisive. Now, keep in mind that these apples are BIG and range from about $6-$9 each. I could see the perspiration bead down my husband's brow as he watched our budget dwindling. Not to fear, though, because he married the Yummy Bitch!

I noticed behind the display cases there were some additional apples wrapped up. After inquiring, I learned that they were a specialty LSU themed apple they had made. Apparently, they have seasonal specialties and these has been left over. At only $3, I was able to convince my son to get it. He was not disappointed with the caramel dipped, chocolate covered delight. It even had extra pieces of chocolates stuck onto it. Bonus!

PRO TIP: Don't toss your wrapping to put leftovers into, because even MY boys couldn't finish their apples, and they can eat!

In conclusion, go to Mr Apple Candy Store and get your kids an apple to stick into their traps so you can drink your 190 Octane in peace- um, I mean, make them happy. Like these two cuties!
