Marriage is commonly defined as the union between man and woman as husband and wife. It is usually celebrated and considered a landmark event in a person's life. Here in this part of the world, it is a very serious event. So serious that young men are pressured to get married while young women are sometimes intimidated, ridiculed or made to have low self esteem because they are unmarried. The long answer sometimes stressful and expensive process of marriage rites and wedding don't make it any easier. This makes young men consider marriage an expensive venture such that they either go through 'the back door', boycotting the procedures by impregnate the girl and living with her until they can afford to do the needful or remain single until they can afford it. The statistics which claims the population contains more women than men also makes this situation worse. In our African culture where it is the duty of the man to woo or be the one to initiate the relationship no matter how much the woman has been admiring the man before then.
All the above makes it even more difficult for the womenfolk. The enormous pressure to get married on ladies in this part of the world have led many of them to make lots of mistakes in relationships, get involved with the wrong people or even accept conditions which they would normally never take. There seem to be so many unmarried ladies over 40 years if age. Lots of ladies have gone to different extremes in order to get a man. Some have tried looking wearing so much makeup or doing cosmetic surgery to look younger and more attractive. Others have tried 'spiritual', seductive or deceptive methods to 'snatch' other ladies men or compel single men to get involved with them. Some ladies have noticed that the men in their lives cannot take the necessary next-step because of funds and decide to cover that angle so they can get married. In recent times, some ladies notice that the men they like are developing cold feet and throw caution to the wind by going ahead to take the first step...asking the man out.
Our news story of today is about a 40 year old popular tv-actress who happens to be a virgin, according to the report. She was so tired of being single that she put up a billboard advert to seek to an appropriate suitor. The billboard contained a large sexy image if her with captivating captions. Unfortunately, the image was seen as inappropriate by the security agencies who eventually sanctioned the advertising company involved and asked them to take it down after payment of a fine.
