Malaysia Officially Asks Australian Assistance for MH370 Debris Identification

in news •  7 years ago

The Malaysian government has formally asked Australia to play a role in examining debris and passengers' remains if the wreckage of the MH370 aircraft is found within the next few weeks.

"We have talked with the Australian Government and the discussion process is underway," said the Leader of the Response Team MH370 Azharuddin Abdul Rahman.

In 2014, Malaysia signed a memorandum of understanding for Australia's Transportation Safety Bureau to lead the investigation, and the Australian Federal Police carried out the work of identifying the victims.

But the deal has ended and Malaysia wants to reactivate the deal.

The ABC PM Program gets a copy of the directive from the rubble recovery plan by the official MH370 investigation team.

The copy of this directive specifies a list of priority items desired by the investigator and some three-month operating forecasts based in Perth, Western Australia.

Flight data and cockpit voice recorder are at the top of the list.

ABC has been notified that if both black boxes are not found, the investigator can still gather some or all of the stories about the last moments of MH370 from different parts of the aircraft that feed the data to both black boxes.

But among the most sensitive items on the priority list to be found in this investigation are the remains of the passenger body and the MH370 crew.
