Megaupload is coming back online

in news •  8 years ago

Kim Dotcom tweeted “I can tell you that Megaupload and Bitcoin had sex. There is a pregnancy and I have a feeling that the baby will be such a joy.” After being shut down by the US Government 5 years ago for selling copywrite material Kim Dotcom has decided to come back online, this time using Bitcoin as payment it looks like. I am not so sure this is such a good thing for Bitcoin as this company has already had lots of troubles with the US copywrite department.

Megaupload accounts reinstated

Dotcom promised that past users accounts from over 5 years ago will all be reinstated.

He is back with a vengeance

Who is he you ask?

For anyone that doesn't know or can't remember who this guy is he created Megaupload.com over 10 years ago a file sharing service that was sharing illegal content. Movies, tv show, music etc. You name it just about any copywrited material you could find on this website but he was shut down 5 years ago by the US Government for copywrite infringement and lost just about everything.

The government charged him with money laundering, racketeering, and copywrite infringement. He become a billionaire stealing peoples creations and content basically in short.

This time it looks like you will pay for the site with Bitcoin.

Here is what Dotcom's multi million dollar home looks like

I am not so sure this is a good thing for the Bitcoin community I am not sure if they want to welcome someone in with open arms who has a bad history with the U.S. government. But it probably has little to no effect on Bitcoin at all. Just thought it was interesting news. You can view the entire story here.

This could be big. Is he simply allowing payment via BTC and other potential Cryptos or is it possible he leverages something like Storj to keep the files decentralized as well?

MegaUpload has been replaced by other options, but should still have enough brand recognition to get back in the game.

I am not sure it just says on his Twitter more details to come soon. Who knows at this point it is still about 6 months away from the launch date.

I upvoted you.
