From Censorship to Transparency and Back

With the shirt tainted from all the scandals and accusations that Facebook faced lately a new way of making the platform "transparent" is emerging. For that the social media platform famous all over the world will start by labeling political adds seen by its users. At least in the UK.

All UK's political adverts will also be stored in an archive for seven years and accessible for anyone by search. Reading such adds anyone will be able to find out how many views an add had, how much did it cost and very important what demographic category it was aiming at.

Mike Schroepfer the CTO of Facebook announced their decision regarding the use of political adverts on Facebook and how transparent everything around them will be. All the changes will take place before next years local elections, but not before the next round of elections which is scheduled next month.

Going back on the subject of censorship, Iran is walking on the same path Russia did by banning the use of Telegram for swapping images and videos between citizens. The telecom officials already revoked Telegram's license of siting their servers in the country. Thus all the servers will be moved outside the country through and messages channeled Iran's government-controlled net gateways.

Telegram is a very popular app in Iran, with almost 50 million users trying to avoid the country's security services reading their messages. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran, already shut down his Telegram channel while officials from the famous messaging app haven't made yet an official statement.

The officials of Iran and government workers followed the leaders decision and stopped using the app also. Meanwhile citizens are encouraged to use Soroush. An app made in Iran that can be controlled by Iran.

Facebook seems to have learned his lessons after all the Cambridge Analytica data disclosure and Mark Zuckerberg testimonies in the American Congress. While the giant social media platform complies with more transparency the famous messaging app, Telegram is facing another ban after the Russians said NO to its well encrypted messages.
