Simona Halep, the world's number one, qualified for the first time in the Australian Open final on Thursday in Melbourne after defeating her German competitor Angelique Kerber in 6-3, 4-6, 9-7 in the last but one act.
Simona Halep made one of the best career matches imposing herself dramatically after two hours and 20 minutes, saving two match balls also.
For Halep (26) is the third final of the Grand Slam of her career, after the two lost at Roland Garros in 2014 and 2017. Halep had not passed the Melbourne quarters until this year, and in the 2016 and 2017 she lost in first round. The Romanian tennis player also played in semifinals at Wimbledon (2014) and US Open (2015).
In the final in Melbourne, Halep will face the Danish Caroline Wozniacki, the world's second second place, which defeated on Thursday the Belgian Elise Mertens wit 6-3, 7-6 (7/2). The winner will be ranked No. 1 in the WTA ranking.
“I try to be very calm, but today was like a rollercoaster up and down. I didn't give up, not even a ball. I did it really well, and I'm really proud of myself actually." - stated Simona after the game.
