The Democratic Party of Korea strategically nominated spokesperson Han Min-soo to the Gangbuk district in Seoul, where candidate Cho Soo-jin resigned.

This morning, about six hours before the candidate registration deadline, the Democratic Party announced that the Party Affairs Committee and Representative Lee Jae-myung, who was delegated the highest authority, made this decision.

"(Representative Lee Jae-myung) decided and approved Spokesperson Han Min-soo as the candidate for Gangbuk, Seoul."

Representative Lee, who was campaigning for a candidate in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, explained, "As we are not in a situation where we can hold another primary, we respected the will of the people and party members and nominated a spokesperson who has dedicated himself to the party for a long time."

“At this last opportunity, I would like to say that we have chosen candidate Han Min-soo as the candidate who is most proven and acceptable to party members and the public.”

Regarding Rep. Park Yong-jin, who is currently serving in Gangbuk, he added, "He is a great politician, but he was evaluated by party members and the public in two primaries," and added, "It was the overwhelming majority opinion at the highest level to decide on Spokesperson Han as the candidate."

Spokesperson Han, a former journalist who served as spokesperson for the National Assembly and senior secretary for political affairs, is classified as a 'pro-Lee Jae-myung faction' outside the party, having served as deputy public information chief for presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung's campaign committee in the last presidential election.

Spokesperson Han previously applied as a candidate when Gangbuk-eul was designated as a strategic primary area due to the cancellation of former lawmaker Jeong Bong-ju's nomination, but did not advance to the primary.

However, lawyer Cho Soo-jin, who beat Rep. Park Yong-jin to become the candidate, announced his resignation due to his past history of defending numerous sex offenders, and he ended up receiving a strategic nomination.
