My Story
About a decade ago, I started out my career in IT as a self-taught developer with CMS Technologies like WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla. I was doing pretty well by helping customers install and build custom pages. I was also concurrently on a 6:00 am –7: 00 pm Paid Job in a commercial Bank. My hope was to get a transfer into the Bank IT Department specifically Application development and begin my programming career. I enrolled in several courses to help me achieve my goal. for me this being a programmer was a childhood dream that I passionately want to achieve. fast-forward 5 years after serving in the Banking operations Unit, My department initiated a process to help me fulfill my dream of crossing over to programming life. . It was a moment I had been waiting for.
But It all Failed!
But the process ended up a failure, my bank IT unit was not willing to recruit a new guy (me)from banking operations for one reason. No programming experience, an experienced full stack backend developer was in need. my boss broke the news and It appeared my life was in shambles. I finally took permission to cross to the marketing department where I spent 3 additional years before I eventually resigned from the monotonous work and I decided to create a future for myself in IT Industry. Resigning my job was a risk I was willing to take; Afterall all I want is fulfillment.
I Hate IT Job
This was not my intention, I was not willing to work in a 6–7 job anymore, I started an IT and Training Outfit to help small businesses with IT solutions and also training tech enthusiasts on basic IT Skills. Thanks to few friends who shared space with me as an office. the Journey was not a rosy one but I enjoyed all the hardship. I was broke, tired, and even sick of everything. The frustration couldn’t be imagined but of course, I know within me that giving up was not the answer.
Making Money as a Programmer
becoming a Programmer and paying my bills were the two most important goals I set for myself, though it was hard blending the two together, to achieve my goals, I need to change my mind and make choices that will improve my chances of being a good programmer and also paying my bills. I finally got an offer!
Though I was not willing to pick up a paid job, I got an offer that could help my programming career. I decided to re-consider my stand because it will help me achieve my two major goals; Pay the Bills and Improve in Programming Skills.
Today I’m better of with my choices, I could have missed a decade ago
Lesson Learnt
Don't wait where you are not needed, take the risk and move because there is a better offer on the other side.
Have a goal that you want to achieve, don’t just learn, try to develop a product
