the prohibition of firearms on children

in news •  7 years ago

-Between 2012 and 2014, on average, 1,297 children in the United States died every year from a firearm-related injury, and those symptoms are not realating with the world, not just one country.

-"When you start putting numbers like these in real lives, real people who are wounded every day by a firearm ... this confirms a statistic we already know a lot about" who is not involved in the study.

-Doctors also emphasize that there are methods available to store and secure firearms and put them away from children, and recommend that parents use these methods when they store weapons in their homes.

-Children and weapons:
_The researchers examined from national information on fatal wounds with firearms to death certificates in the database of the National System of Vital Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

-For non-fatal firearm injuries, the researchers examined information from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System database of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.

-Especially, reviewing deaths and injuries among children under 17 years of age, the researchers analyzed trend information that occurred between 2002 and 2014.

They found that, among the deaths, 53% were homicides, 38% were suicides, 6% were involuntary and 3% were related to public order or not. Among the wounds, 71% were attacks, 21% unintentional, 5% were related to the application of the law or not determined and 3% self-inflicted damage.

_On unintentional injuries with firearms, Dr. Weiser says that the case of the third-grade girl he attended was not the first he saw in a minor. Another case involved a 9-year-old boy who was given a birthday gift weapon.

_"He shot his 6-year-old brother, playing in the backyard," Weiser said, adding that the findings of the new study show that children are much more likely to be injured by guns than girls.

-Males occupy 82% of all children who die by firearms and 84% of all non-fatal injuries that were treated medically. Black children had higher homicide rates with firearms, while white children and Native Americans had higher rates of suicide with firearms.

_Those patterns of gun-related deaths seem to fluctuate between states.

-On suicides - which were calculated in the study only for children 10 years and older - the researchers found that the incidents were widely dispersed throughout the country. However, separate investigations found that suicide rates with firearms were disproportionately higher in rural areas compared to urban areas.

-For Dr. David Wesson, a pediatric surgeon at the Children's Hospital of Texas, who was not involved in the study, suicide rates were one of the most disturbing trends.

"It is important that parents are aware of the mental state of their children and if they are depressed," said the specialist. "Having access to a weapon in a situation where you are upset with what is happening at school or with your friends, or with your own emotional state, can unfortunately lead to suicide. It is very important for parents to be aware of that, particularly if they have weapons at home. "

Interesting article, but I didn’t see anything said about educating children about guns. If they are taught what they are, what they are for, and how to properly handle them from a young age, many of these situations would be prevented. A firearm is a tool. If it is misused, you cannot blame the tool.

si se puede educar pero deben de tener cuidao son los padres con el manejos de las armas alfrente de los niños amigo ,,,
