BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:45 P.M.) - Earlier today, the Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization crossed the Euphrates River and launched a big assault on the strategic border-city of Albukamal.
According to a report from the area, the Islamic State managed to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army's (SAA) defenses and enter the city after a fierce battle this morning.
Despite claims of repelling the attack, a military source told Al-Masdar that the battle is still ongoing, with the Syrian Army now on the offensive.
The source added that the Syrian Army is attempting to retake the areas that were seized by the Islamic State in Albukamal and they should be able to regain the lost ground shortly.
While the ISIS caught the Syrian military off guard, the terrorist group does not possess enough fighters to hold the areas they captured for very long.
The ISIS assault seems to be one of desperation, as they are losing a lot of ground in the Badiya Al-Sham region in eastern Al-Sweida.
