Australian Nusra member given 5 year prison sentence for fighting in Syria

BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:00 P.M.) - An Australian member of Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham (formerly Jabhat Al-Nusra) was sentenced to nearly five years in prison for fighting with the aforementioned jihadist group in Syria.

According to the Daily Mail, Mehmeet Biber, 25, left Australia for Syria in 2013; he would then join the jihadist group Jabhat Al-Nusra.

The Daily Mail reported that Biber did not fight with the jihadist group while in Syria, adding that he stated he would if he had been given the chance.

Biber is eligible for parole next year.
