BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:20 A.M.) - The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) launched a large-scale counter-offensive in the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate this morning, targeting the areas recently captured by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Taking advantage of the heavy fog, the Islamic State units in the Al-Sousah area launched a big attack on the southern axis of Al-Shafah.
According to local reports, the Islamic State was able to make some preliminary gains near the key town of Al-Shafah; however, nothing substantial has been seized by the terrorist group.
The Islamic State is attempting to retake Al-Shafah from the Syrian Democratic Forces, who captured the town from the terrorist group over the weekend.
Similar to previous attacks, the Islamic State often launches powerful offensives like this when the weather is poor; this allows them to attack without fear of air strikes from the enemy forces.
