BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:50 A.M.) - The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has officially taken control of the former jihadist stronghold of Jubata Al-Khashab in rural Al-Quneitra, a military communique said this morning.

According to the communique, the Syrian Arab Army entered Jubata Al-Khashab, Taranjah, and Ufaniyah after the last jihadist rebels departed from the Al-Quneitra Governorate for the northern Syria province of Idlib.

Jubata Al-Khashab was arguably one of the most important strongholds for Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham in southwest Syria due to its proximity from the border of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) often launched attacks against the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (SAA) from Jubata Al-Khashab, which made its seizure on Wednesday all the more important.

Jubata Al-Khashab was also one of the first major towns in Al-Quneitra that fell to the jihadist rebels during their first major offensive in southwest Syria.

With this town under their control, the Syrian Arab Army now has soldiers along every major post near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
