BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:15 P.M.) - The Royal Air Force tested its new air-to-air Meteor missile using their Typhoon fighter jets, the CSIS Missile Defense Project reported.

According to the publication, the Royal Air Force conducted the test in a Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) alert mission.

The U.K. Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson said that the Meteor missile “demonstrates the next chapter of the Typhoon, which will see the jet evolve its ability to target and destroy any airborne threat at great distances.”

The CSIS report said that a Meteor missile is a "ramjet motor-powered Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM) jointly developed by the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Sweden. Guided by an active radar seeker, it is designed to engage aerial targets such as jets, UAVs, and cruise missiles."
