BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:00 P.M.) - The Islamic State's (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) de facto capital, Hajin, is on the verge of being captured by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after a week of battle.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the Syrian Democratic Forces are now in control of 70 percent of Hajin, leaving the southern quarter of the town still occupied by the Islamic State.
While the SOHR alleges that the SDF controls 70 percent of Hajin, other reports from local activists indicate that the U.S.-backed troops control less than half the town.
Should the Islamic State lose Hajin in the coming days, they will themselves in a world of trouble, as they will no longer control any major town east of the Euphrates River.
For the Syrian Democratic Forces, the capture of Hajin would be a major victory against the Islamic State and it would allow them to free up a large number troops that are greatly needed in northern Syria.
