Fierce standoff takes place between Wahhab supporters, Lebanese security forces

BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 P.M.) - A fierce standoff took place between the Lebanese security forces and supporters of the Tawhid Party leader, Wiam Wahhab, earlier today.

According to a report from the Internal Security Forces, they sent a convoy of 15 vehicles to Wahhab's home in Jahlieh after supporters of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri filed lawsuits against him for insulting the latter.

However, as they reached the vicinity of Wahhab's home, they were confronted by a large number of Tawhid Party supporters, who blocked the access to the house.

Clashes reportedly broke out between the two parties, resulting in a few injuries on both sides.

Tawhid Party Chief Wi'am Wahhab said in an interview with LBCI this evening that "a clash occurred between the Information Branch and supporters of the Tawhid Party which led to injuries," adding that "whoever wishes to inform someone of a lawsuit does not send hundreds of vehicles!"

"Hezbollah relayed to Prime Minister Hariri the appropriate position tonight, and I have prevented any armed appearance in the town now," he added.
