DAMASCUS, SYRIA (2:30 P.M.) - A US-backed rebel group keeps on gaining ground against the Islamic State in eastern Syria in bid to cleanse the entire border area with Iraq.

Fierce battles erupted lately whereby the Kurdish militia managed to capture several towns and villages including Al-Ismail, Al-Aqra, Bir Mazal, Bir Dahamad, Al-Jarjari, Al-Halluni, Al-Bujari, Abud al-Jadan, al-Khinzir, Bir Zuqum, Bir Umm Ghurba, Qarat al-Moutab, Umm al-Rus, Sabkhat al-Sahil and Kisham in Rodah region.

The recent advance, heavily backed by the US-led coalition airstrikes, has granted the Syrian Democratic Forces control over approximately 35 square kilometers .

With the Islamic State losing steadily losing lands, its militants are retreating toward the stretching desert of Hasakah, where they started building trenches and fortifications, making use of the caves and hilltops to hide.
