BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:20 A.M.) - The Islamic State (ISIS) launched a surprise attack against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) this morning in a bid to infiltrate into the strategic city of Albukamal.
According to a report from the National Defense Forces (NDF), the Islamic State attempted to enter the Albukamal countryside after they escaped the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) this past weekend.
A fierce battle would ensue between the Islamic State terrorists and Syrian Arab Army; it would last for a few hours on Sunday.
The Syrian Arab Army would ultimately repel the Islamic State's infiltration attempt, forcing them to retreat northeast in order to evade capture.
Since losing almost all of the Deir Ezzor Governorate, the Islamic State has launched one desperate attack after another against the Syrian Arab Army near Albukamal.
ISIS did manage to infiltrate into Albukamal once during these attempts; however, they would later be expelled from the area after a fierce battle with the Syrian Arab Army.
