Jihadists preparing large-scale offensives in Hama, Latakia: Idlib governor

BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:25 P.M.) - The jihadist rebels in the Hama and Latakia provinces are preparing to launch large-scale offensives against the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies, the Idlib governor Mohammad Fadi Sadun told Sputnik News on Monday.

"There is a threat of armed groups organizing large-scale attacks in northern Latakia and northern Hama. But the Syrian army is taking measures and is ready to repel possible attacks," the official said.

Sadun's comments have been mirrored by the Russian Reconciliation Center, who have also accused the jihadist rebels in the Idlib province of attempting to sabotage the Sochi agreement that was established on September 17th.

The Syrian Arab Army has been involved in a fierce battle with the jihadist groups near the Idlib demilitarized zone for over three months now, despite repeated calls by Turkey and Russia to halt hostilities.

Turkey is attempting to prolong any potential operation by the Syrian Arab Army in order for their own forces to attack the Kurdish-led groups east of the Euphrates.

However, the problem with Turkey's continued objection to any Syrian military operation is that the jihadist rebels are preparing for their own offensives in order to regain the territories they lost in the Idlib, Hama, and Latakia provinces.
