BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:45 P.M.) - The leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, took to Twitter on Monday to comment on an Al-Akhbar article about the recent events that transpired in the Chouf District over the weekend.
"We have understood that broaching Iran in any way whatsoever is forbidden. We have also understood that insulting Ali Mamlouk is also forbidden. And we have understood that Wiam Wahhab could have been summoned in a different way," Jumblatt tweeted.
"Comparing this situation to the events of May 2008 is not right. The message could have been delivered without armed convoys. Just an opinion," he wrote, asking for a "calm" response.
Jumblatt previously came to the defense of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri after leaked tapes of Wiam Wahhab insulting the latter came out.
However, when the Lebanese Internal Security Forces were sent to arrest Wahhab, intense clashes would breakout in the Tawhid Party's hometown of Al-Jahlieh.
The Lebanese ISF were accused of killing the Tawhid Party supporter, Mohammad Bou Diab, during the confrontation.
