BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:50 P.M.) - A large number of Russian special forces personnel were deployed to the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate this week, the Furat Post reported.
According to the publication, the Russian special forces were specifically deployed to the Albukamal and Sayyal areas of the province.
The publication said the Russian special forces were equipped with armored vehicles, anti-tank guided missiles, and sniper rifles, as they prepare to aid the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in their upcoming offensive in the province.
Currently, the so-called "Islamic State" (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) maintains a large presence near the strategic city of Al-Mayadeen, which was also once their de facto capital after they lost Raqqa city to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
With their operations wrapping up around the Al-Safa region, the Syrian Arab Army has begun concentrating their troops to the Deir Ezzor front, as they prepare to launch this new offensive.
