BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) - Over the last 72 hours, both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Turkish-backed rebels have been amassing troops around the strategic city of Manbij.
While neither side has made a move against the other, the two parties continue to raise suspicions about an impending battle over the future control of this city located directly west of the Euphrates River.
According to a military source near the front-lines, the Syrian Arab Army has deployed some units to the eastern countryside of Manbij, as the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reportedly transferred control of the Tishreen Dam to them (map above does not depict this).
In the coming hours, the Syrian Arab Army is expected to send more reinforcements to the front-lines in Manbij, while their adversaries to the north are believed to be planning to withdraw from the area
Should the Turkish-backed forces back away from Manbij, this would be an imperative victory form the Syrian military and Syrian Democratic Forces.
