SDF reach gates of ISIS stronghold east of the Euphrates - map

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:45 P.M.) - The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been on a role as of late, seizing several areas from the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group in the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

Backed by French and U.S. airstrike, the Syrian Democratic Forces were able to advance this past weekend from the recently captured town of Al-Kashmah to the strategic Al-Shafah area.

According to local activists in the region, the Syrian Democratic Forces reached the gates of Al-Shafah after pushing the remaining Islamic State terrorists south from the Al-Kashmah axis.

The Syrian Democratic Forces are now working to fracture the Islamic State's lines at the northern flank of Al-Shafah, while their allies from the U.S. Coalition attempt to weaken the terrorist group's resolve inside the town.

Once Al-Shafah is captured from the Islamic State, the Syrian Democratic Forces can make their way towards the last terrorist stronghold at Al-Sousah.
