Syrian Army kicks off massive offensive to liberate southern Syria from Daesh

BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:45 A.M.) - The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) kicked off a new offensive against the so-called Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) in southern Syria this week.

Led by their elite 4th Armored Division, the Syrian Arab Army began the offensive by heavily targeting Daesh's defenses in the Al-Safa region with a barrage of surface-to-surface missiles and artillery shells.

Following this powerful assault, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the Islamic State's defenses from three different axes, scoring small advances at the strategic Qasr Sheikh Hussein area.

Much of the Syrian Arab Army's success this weekend was due in large part to their frequent use of tanks while pushing towards Daesh's well-fortified trenches and hideouts.

As shown in the video below, the Syrian Arab Army is heavily attacking Daesh's last defenses in the Al-Safa hills as they look to liberate this region in southern Syria by the end of the year:

Recently, the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF) have sent several large reinforcement convoys to help with this operation against the Daesh terrorist organization.

Among the reinforcements were several units from the Syrian Arab Army's 4th Armored Division, including the 42nd Brigade (Ghiath Forces), and many groups from the National Defense Forces' Al-Quneitra wing.

All of these reinforcements are battle-tested and should provide the Syrian military a much needed boost against the experienced Daesh fighters in southern Syria.
