BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:30 P.M.) - President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas described attempts to separate Gaza from Palestinian mainland as futile in a televised address from Ramallah on Saturday.
"The Deal of the Century will not pass," said Abbas alluding US President Donald Trump's Middle East peace proposal. He referred to it as a continuation of Balfour Declaration "conspiracy".
"Our national unity is the most precious thing we have, and it is our strongest weapon to face the plans for liquidation and conspiracies that are being waged against our national cause."
Abbas made the remarks on the fourteenth anniversary of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's death.
The Balfour Declaration, a UK statement signed on November 2, 1917 called for the formation of a "national home for Jewish people in Palestine," and is regarded by many as the principal cause for Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
