DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:45 P.M.) - The Army of the United States has installed its first observation point along the Turkey-Syria borders but without deploying additional troops.

The first observation post was established near Tall Abyad in Raqqa province near the Turkish border.

The US military intends to establish 5 points in the area between Kobani and Tall Abyad.

The purpose of these points, according to Defense Secretary James N. Mattis, is to provide Turkey with military intelligence of any terrorist elements moving into Turkey from Syria.

Washington, however, made clear that no additional troops will be deployed to tackle this mission as it will be handled by troops already deployed to the area.

Both the US and Turkey began to hold joint patrols in the Syrian border area of Manbij since November.
