BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:40 P.M.) - The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) advanced into the town of Saida in Daraa on Thursday, after fierce clashes with militants groups in the area.
Images show the SAA launching artillery strikes around Saida town to the east of Daraa city.
The military operations occurred in al-Jomrok al-Qadim (Old Customs), in the southern outskirts of Daraa al-Balad area, where militant groups linked to Jabhat al-Nusra are located.
The army operations reportedly destroyed several militant hideouts, seizing heavy artillery.
Saida, situated 10 kilometers east of Daraa, is one of the major strongholds of militant groups in the eastern countryside, media said.
The fighting is part of an ongoing offensive in the area.
At least 270,000 people have been displaced in the Daraa region since June 20 due to the intense fighting, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
