BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:45 A.M.) - The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is in full control of the Yarmouk Basin region for the first time in several years.

The battle for the Yarmouk Basin region began late last month, when the Syrian Arab Army's 4th Division and Tiger Forces branch shifted their attention from the Al-Quneitra Governorate to this large Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) held pocket.

Not long after launching this operation, the Syrian Arab Army was able to liberate a large portion of the Islamic State occupied region, ultimately forcing them to concede their territory after more than a week of fighting.

With the Yarmouk Basin region liberated, the Syrian Arab Army has completed the final stage of their southwest Syria offensive.

As shown in the video footage below, the Yarmouk Basin was an imperative region that is agriculturally rich and strategically located near the borders of Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights:

The Yarmouk Basin region was also the site of one of the most important battles since the fall of the Roman Empire.

Led by Khaled bin Walid in 636 A.D., the Rashidun Caliphate soundly defeated the Byzantine Empire at the Battle of Yarmouk, thus ending the latter's reign over the Levant.
