Various names pop up throughout history in the world of football. Sometimes these names are rivalries, sometimes they are completely dominant and sometimes they pass through as a great but not as an incredible player. Some examples are Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Gerard Pique, Luka Modric and Kevin Debruyne, however, the world currently has a whole selection of incredible goalkeepers many of which are underrated names. So who are these players and why are their currently so many incredible goalkeepers playing the beautiful game? This article will address a closely contested top five goalkeepers in the world at the moment with some honourable mentions.

Number 5: Ter Stegen
Ter Stegen was born on 30th of April 1992 in Germany and currently plays for FC Barcelona. Ter Stegen is renowned for his incredible command inside his area and particularly good reflexes when it comes to making quick saves.

Number 4: Courtois
Courtois was born on the 11th of May 1992 in Belgium and currently plays for Real Madrid. Courtois is renowned for his insane height which enables him to pull off some ridiculous high saves and wide parries.

Number 3: De Gea
De Gea was born on the 7th of November 1990 in Spain and currently plays for Real Madrid. De Gea is one of the most complete goalkeepers on the planet however what makes him unique is his incredible feet saves and reaction times which is one of the fastest in the world.

Number 2: Navas
Keylor Navas was born on the 15th of December 1986 and currently plays for Real Madrid. Keylor Navas is one of the most underrated goalkeepers ever as even after winning three UCL's in a row he is still neglected by fans and even by his partners internally in Los Blancos. Navas is renowned for his incredible low saves, his rushing out and his defiant command of his area.

Number 1: Oblak
Jan Oblak was born on the 7th of January 1993 who plays for Atletico Madrid. Jan Oblak is quietly underrated by many however his build helps him to make the most incredible saves. His amazing elasticity helps him to reach the ball fast when it is low or high.

The honourable mentions are Manuel Neuer who played so little throughout the season that I could not judge him, Allison who is by all means an incredible keeper however plays around with the ball to much and Hugo Loris who also plays around with the ball a little to much for one to be comfortable watching him.
