WASHINGTON - The United States (US) claims to be overwhelmed and avoids Syrian air defense systems to attack any targets at the heart of the country's chemical weapons program. As is known, the US along with Britain and France launched a multi-pronged attack air and sea to Syria in response to a chemical weapons attack in Douma a week ago.

The operation takes hours before it has any real impact. After that, it took only minutes from the first explosion to the last of 105 precision missile strikes against three Syria chemical weapons targets, US officials said.

Joint Chiefs of Staff, Kenneth McKenzie, dismissed statements from Russia and Syria that a number of Western missiles were successfully shot down.

Ia says Russia's air defenses are not lit, while Syrian air defenses are completely ineffective. The surging attacks come from a variety of directions involving not only US, British and French aircraft but also US naval destroyers, cruisers as well as French frigates and even US submarines.

McKenzie said Syrian air defenses were not only missed missiles that managed to penetrate the defenses, but they also continued to shoot even after a trio of US, British, French attacks were completed.

Some of the more than 40 Syrian missile interceptors, he said, may have achieved civilian targets.

"When you shoot iron into the sky without a clue, it will surely fall to earth," McKenzie said as quoted by Reuters on Sunday (15/4/2018).

The United States, Britain and France launched an airstrike on Syria on Saturday morning in response to a suspected chemical attack in Douma over the weekend. About 110 missiles hit targets in Syria's capital, Damascus and other regions.

Although so many missiles were shot down by Soviet-made air defense systems. S-125 air defense systems, S-200 air defense systems, Buk and Kvadrat are used in parrying missile attacks launched by the US and its allies.

But this report is firmly denied by the Pentagon. Pentagon spokesman Dana White warned that Russia was actively trying to sow confusion about the attack.

"The Russian disinformation campaign has already begun. There is an increase of 2,000 percent of Russian trolls in the last 24 hours, "White said.

Truth is the first casualty, as both sides are most likely exaggerating what actually happened.

The narrative should be that this airstrike should never have happened in the first place.
