It's a day gamers celebrate and fear in equal measure. It provides an insane number of equally insane discounts on games, which only adds to an insane backlog. It's the Steam Winter Sale, and it is finally upon us.
Just in time for the holidays, the Steam Winter Sale is up and running. Whether you prefer indie darlings, AAA mega-hits or anything in between, there's likely a little something (more like a lot of somethings) here for you to take a gander at.
What immediately jumped to our attention were a number of some of this year's most talked about games. While the newer offerings might not offer the deepest discounts, you can't argue with GOTY contenders having a few bucks knocked off of the price tag. And then, there are games like Wolfenstein II, Prey, Pyre and the last South Park game, all of which have been discounted by a whopping 50 percent.
If you're in the mood for what many are calling the best RPG to come along in a very long time, then you might want to check out Divinity: Original Sin II for 10 percent off. Heck, even the rad-as-hell Cuphead has been knocked down by 15 percent. The added bonus is that this is the real game and not a mobile rip-off!
If you're looking to fill holes in your digital collection, some franchises are on sale, too, including Dishonored, the Arkham games, a bunch of Naruto games and more.
In the AAA department, games like Assassin's Creed: Origins and Middle-earth: Shadow of War have been discounted by 30 percent, which is a pretty good deal if you haven't picked up either of those titles yet. As for indies, you can find games like Hellblade, Stardew Valley and even Rocket League on sale, assuming you're one of the five people out there who hasn't played Rocket League yet.
If you're in the market for some slightly older games, the standard version of Dark Souls III has had 75 percent hacked off of its price tag, while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been slashed by 50 percent.
If you've ever checked out a Steam Winter Sale, you know that we're only scraping the top of the iceberg at this point. There are hundreds upon hundreds of games receiving various degrees of discounts, so it wouldn't hurt to just pop on over to the store, peek your head in and see what they've got to offer.
As has become customary recently, Steam is also discounting their hardware through the ongoing sale, including the Steam Controller and Steam Link. There's a whole extra section for the hardware with discounts of up to 90 percent off.
If you find something especially juicy, be sure to circle back and drop a recommendation into the comments below.
