US Attacks Syria. Explosions Heard In Damascus

in news •  7 years ago

For those who have not heard the United States just attacked Syria.

President Trump announced at 10pm that the US, French, and British forces were launching extended attacks in Syria.

As I am writing this post at 9:50 pm E.T. CNN has been reporting that explosions have been heard in Damascus and at various Syrian army bases.

The US has been firing missiles via its navy ships and via its air force. The fact that the US is sending its own pilots over Syrian air space in the regime controlled area is a major development.

As of now I do not know if they let the Russians know in advance that they were going to attack and where they were going to attack. But I think it is safe to say that they did.

The US is being very careful not to attack any Russian military points as that escalation would be too dangerous for all sides.

President Trump also said that these strikes are not only meant to act as a response to the recent chemical attacks in Syria but as a deterrent for future attacks.

In a press conference the US said three areas were targeted. The first was a scientific research centre in Damascus area for research development of weapons, the second was a chemical weapons storage facility west of homes, the third was a Syrian command post

The US government also says that this strike was intended as a one time shot and that they are not planning on attacking anymore assuming there is no response from Assad.
