3D facial recognition will replace Apple's finger print scanner on the iPhone 8.
Apple's goal is quickening the sensor’s recognition capabilities and that it only takes “a few hundred milliseconds” to unlock the phone. It can reportedly recognize faces even if the phone is laying flat on a table.
Apple has gone 10 years with a remarkable security record on the iPhone.
The front camera would need a very, very wide angle lens in order to get the correct facial topography of the face if the phone is on a flat surface. I think it's still a ways off. But never the less removing the home button from the screen would be a massive plus.

The bigger the better. The iPhone does take a nice picture.
