United Airlines Won't Fire Anyone Involved in the Passenger "Re-accommodation" Incident

United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz deeply apologized for last week's passenger re-accommodation incident, which left Dr. David Dao unconscious, his body being dragged off a United flight by airport security personnel. Munoz also remarked that the incident humbled him, and everyone at the company. Apparently, however, the embattled CEO will fall short of taking responsibility.

No one involved in the re-accommodation incident will lose their jobs, including of course the CEO. That is a remarkable show of arrogance that might change later as the legal implications regarding the case are revealed. Employees within other industries have been fired for far less. But at United Airlines, you can beat the living hell out of your paying customers, and still have a job the next day.

It's insane how twisted our priorities are. If someone were to make a politically insensitive remark, let alone a racist comment, he or she would feel the full condemnation of American society. In some circles, no amount of apologizing is good enough to warrant forgiveness.

But when an airliner beats its paying customer senseless, somehow, that is a forgivable crime. Even crazier, the instigators of the incident will still have employment.

As they say, only in America!
