A suicide bomb attack in the Mudug region of Somalia killed five local residents. According to media reports, as reported by Middle East Monitor, the deadly incident stems from the actions of a suicide bomber.

"As a result of the action, five people were killed and eight others wounded and several military personnel near the scene were also victims, they were rushed to a nearby hospital in the capital of Galkayo," local health officials said.
One health worker told Garowe Online, some of the victims were in critical condition due to injuries hit by bombs. "The number of deaths is likely to increase."
Meanwhile, Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud, one of the Somali military officers, said the incident was carried out by a man wearing a modified device to blow himself up near a military facility. "As a result of the action, our commander Colonel Abdi Hukun Abdullah and two other officers were killed."
From Al-Shabab news agency, Shahadah, obtained information, commander of the combined forces in Puntland government, Colonel abd Allah Hurai, was killed along with three other officers.
Al-Sahabab, an armed group fighting against the Somali government, claimed responsibility for the deadly blast. The Middle East Monitor report says al-Shabab has been battling the Somali government for more than a decade to apply the Islamic legal system or Shari'ah law.
The group routinely attacks Somali military facilities and members with modified equipment, including with suicide bombings that all cause civilian casualties.
