The history of one of the largest man-made disasters will be told in a five-part film.

The American television channel HBO, famous for such series as "The Game of Thrones", "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City", is going to shoot a new five-part mini-series about the Chernobyl nuclear power plant catastrophe.

The shooting is scheduled to begin in 2018 in Lithuania. The main role has already been approved - Jared Harris. According to the agency, he will play a scientist, whom the Soviet government instructed to find out the exact cause of the catastrophe at the nuclear power plant.

Recall, the catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant occurred on April 26, 1986. Due to the explosion at the fourth power unit of the station, the largest radiation contamination of the territories of modern Ukraine, Belarus and Russia occurred. The victim of the catastrophe within the first three months was 31 people. Over the next 15 years from the effects of radioactive exposure, 60 to 80 people died. Another 134 were injured, receiving radiation sickness of varying severity. More than 115 thousand people were evacuated from the 30km zone around the station.
