Warriors of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) succeeded for the first time to infiltrate the Syrian "IS capital" Raqqa from the south.

The Syrian city of Raqqa, together with Mosoel in Iraq, is considered the last important bolivarian of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist terrorist group. The warriors of SDF have been working on an offensive to retake the city since November last year.

SDF today succeeded in crossing the Euphrates, just beyond the natural southern border of Raqqa.

On Thursday, the alliance, supported from the sky by the US, could already fully surround the city. In addition, the SDF had already taken back several districts in the east and west of Raqqa last month.

According to the international coalition, there are still around 2,500 IS warriors in the center of the city.
