THQ Nordic Brings The Excitement To Gamescom!

All of the days, weeks and months of the year fly by in a hurry and soon it's time for one of the game world's biggest game fairs, Gamescom to be held. THQ Nordic revealed the study schedule for the fair and it is at least packed with a total of eight games, of which two are previously unannounced. The six, already announced games that we will see more at the fair are Elex, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Spellforce 3, Aquanox: Deep Descent, The Guild 3 and Wreckfest

THQ Nordic also revealed that one of the unannounced titles is a post-apocalyptic kung fu role-playing game with open game world - a brand new IP, which obviously sounds interesting. You can read the full press release here

Elex

When you first hear Elex's premise, it's almost a given to feel confused, combining both fantasy and scifi in a game with an open gaming world, something that is relatively unusual in the role-playing genre. Developers usually adhere to only one of these and build a world around that base, but Elex swims against the stream to offer an action title that revolves around nature / magic as well as technology and the struggle between these elements.

It offers on a rare combination of fantasy and science fiction.

The player is thrown into a massive war between different factions when the realm is divided by a substance called Elex which induces madness and empties people off their feelings. When our protagonist Jax wakes up after falling victim to a assassin (who luckily failed his mission), he is emptied at Elex and experiences human feelings for the first time, allowing him to live his own life without being manipulated by external forces.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar

The Airship Syndicate (formerly Vigil Games) is currently working on their forthcoming IP Battle Chasers: Nightwar, which at first glance reminds of both the League of Legends and Victor Vran. Described in advance as a classic Japanese roleplaying game filled with ... More action. By working more with elements such as traps, puzzles and the ability to avoid fights, they hope to deliver a solid product.

This history focuses on three heroes; The first is Gully, who inherits his father's gloves, which gives her supernatural strength. Then we have Garrison, former paladin and, in short, the best swordsman of the world, and Calibretto which is a walking tank basically. Since Calibretto consists of illegal technology, he is often seen as an danger, not because hes evil but because he's almost like an walking atomic bomb with all his illegal tech. Calibretto has a big heart and is described by the developers as the group's lifesaver. Then we have the wizard Knolan with a somewhat salty attitude and last but not least Red Monika, who does whatever she wants. And don't forget about Alumon, as a devil hunter, he certainly may be needed.

The following info is taken from Spellforce 3 official website.

"SpellForce is deeply rooted in the amalgamation of the real-time strategy (RTS) and the roleplaying game (RPG) genre. In SpellForce 3, players are taken back to the roots of the SpellForce saga and experience war-torn times in the world of Eo, leading up to a cataclysmic event after which the first two parts take place. Command your troops, level/gear/skill up your party of heroes, strengthen your armed forces, conquer pivotal zones to expand your sovereign territory, and experience the world-changing events that will lead up to the convocation ritual at close quarters."

Aquanox: Deep Descent

The following info is taken from Aquanox: Deep Descent official website.

Take control of a team of highly trained fighter pilots and experience an epic story in the deep sea world of Aquanox. Send your enemies down to Davy Jones’ Locker with well-aimed torpedoes, mortars, mines and more in a journey that takes you across the world’s oceans and into the deepest trenches of our Earth.

Aquanox Deep Descent does not tie into the original series directly. Still, the foundations of its story world are derived from what made the original game world stand out:

  • The deep sea, unexplored, mysterious, hazardous
  • Humankind forced to live under dire circumstances, far from the surface world we are used to, but still faced with the most basic of human problems
  • A multi-layered ecosystem, in which the political and economical balance of power is ever-shifting; the struggle for survival does not grant the luxury of simple categories like good or bad
  • A dystopian vision of our Earth and oceans; no alien planet, no parallel dimension
  • Characters whose personal problems inform and dictate the narrative of the game

In short, a world worth exploring.

The Guild 3

The following info is taken from The Guild 3 official website.

A unique mixture of economic simulation, strategy game, historical life simulation and role playing game in 3D!

Europe in the year 1400: The dark middle ages, once dominated by nobles and the clergy, came to an end and a new era begins: the age of free, prospering cities, trading and an open mind-set!

One of the goals in the The Guild series is to create a family dynasty which can last for centuries. While the world around you and your dynasty rearranges itself time and time again – all non-player characters (NPCs) make their own decisions –, you have to prove your skills in artisan craftwork and trading, participate in social occasions and perfect your political schemes and malicious intrigues.

Elex and Spellforce III are the ones that interest me the most. Because I really like RTS game, especially fantasy RTS. And that Elex simply looks unique, I'd love to see how this unusual genres combination from THQ would be.
Very good post!

Same here, the Spellforce series has always given me fun fantasy experiences, hope the third will deliver over and beyond! Elex is looking different and really interesting, i hope they pull it off! :)
