Belgian League 2023-2024 | News & Transfers Watch

in news •  last year

I'm trying to keep up to date with all the transfer news happening in the Belgian League during the summer bringing weekly reports on it with an eye on beating the Betting Market in the 2023-2024 Season once again ...

I have highly enjoyed the Sorare Fantasy Football NFT Play2Earn game last season and can recommend it to everyone who is a football fan and watches many matches as it certainly gives them an added dimension. I'm also using the transfer window to possibly pick up some good deals along the way.

The transfer window pretty much is in full force with all teams looking to properly build their squad for the new season.

Biggest News & Transfers So Far...

Racing Genk

A 2nd big transfer after Kayembe was done with Alieu Fadera coming over from relegated Zulte-Waregem for 4 Million. He was one of the revelations last season and multiple teams were trying to get him in. He will likely be the replacement of Tresor or Paintsil in the team on the offensive wings and should have his place in the A-Squad assuming he confirms his good form.

I did anticipate him being a player to be transferred the moment Zulte-Waregem was sure to relegate while prices were down. Having a scoring young striker for my Under 23 team has been a position that I needed which made me buy him at the time for just under 10€

By now this price tripled to 30€ and there is room to go down or up based on his performance in Genk. The fact that he is young, plays in one of the top teams who will play in europe while he also has excellent stats despite playing in a bad team are all reasons for him to be priced this way.

Union

In a bit of a shock, the coach of Union left as they didn't come to an agreement. One of the main issues for Union is that they have a salary cap which they hold onto despite the success. This makes it hard for them to hold players going forward and their coach leaving for that reason for sure is a blow as he brought great continuity after Mazzu left last year. With a new coach (Blessin is biggest candidate), they likely will need to learn a new system which might be a struggle. They also did an incoming transfer with Charles Vanhoutte who is a midfielder coming over from Cercle Brugge. I'm not quite sure however if he will be a A-Squad player but multiple teams were interested in getting him in.

I did anticipate and bought him cheap for 1.75€ as he doesn't really have the best stats. The price by now just increased a little bit to 2.26€. He also is an option for me to buy as a Rare Player in case I would be able to buy him at 25€-40€ just because he will also play in Europe. I do however expect Union to struggle next season just because they will need to confirm with many new players and another coach without the big budget which means they once again need to do some home runs on the transfers getting players that are totally under the radar.

Standard

They also have a new coach with Hoefkens who might be a good fit for them as he knows the league and has the Standard DNA. However, it will be a massive challenge to follow up Deila who really did wonders with the team who simply didn't have enough quality. It also very much looks like they will be weaker this season unless some big moves are made on the transfer market which I'm afraid they don't have the funds for. So far they did 3 transfers with Isaac Price who is a 19-year-old midfielder coming from Everton. Aiden O'Neill who us a 24-year-old Midfielder coming from Melbourne City and finally Ilyes Ziani whi is a 20-year old midfielder coming over from Union. All players with no stats that never really managed to force anything in their former club so I would say rather unlikely for these to be revelations.

OHL

Not too much action yet from OHL who did their 1st real transfer getting Ezechiel Banzuzi from NAC Breda who is a 18-year-old midfielder who also was one of the targets of Anderlecht.

Kv Mechelen

Mechelen last season simply lacked quality and also don't have the financial means to really do much which makes them another team who likely won't be able to do really well in the league next season. They did keep Mrabti in the team who is one of their scoring strikers. He has lots of injury trouble last season which made him only get 852 minutes in 12 appearances where he also only scored 1 goal. They ear before however, he played 36 matches doing 2922 minutes and scoring 10 goals. He's one of those players with the potential to fill your Cap240 team when needing a player with a low overall score that has the potential to score and lift you above 250 points. They did their 1st transfer in the search for another striker with Lion Lauberbach who came from Braunschweig where he was at the end of his contract. Looking at his stats, however, it's hard to see him as a real enforcement.

Some players I also picked up recently with an eye on them making a transfer:

Ramazani currently is playing in the U21 championship and he's on the radar of Antwerp. Both Ambrose and Sakamoto are players from Oostende who were among the better and might get a transfer to a better team especially Sakamoto who is on the radar of multiple teams.

Probably a lot more transfers the coming week as the practice matches also are getting started with about a month left before the start of the new season.
