Jupiler League Week 1 Sunday Previews

in news •  last year

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

Pretty solid Saturday marking around a unit of profit. For now, I'm still keeping the number of bets limited while still getting a better grip on all the teams. Compared to last season I would say I almost doubled the average stake which is my general plan for this year aiming to bet at least 10 units each week this way. 4 Matches on Sunday...

Antwerp vs Cercle Brugge

Antwerp showed in the super cup that they once again will play their same solid style which isn't anything spectacular as they try to take the lead without giving anything away and afterward don't push enough for the 2-goal lead let alone a 3-goal lead. This makes them a team where my main idea is to always look at a potential live under when they take the lead. Last season they also showed stats where 61.7% of the goals in their home matches came in the 1st half making them along with Genk the teams which have reversed stats on those. I expect a similar dynamic this season. Cercle Brugge is seen by many as a potential revelation of this season, the only problem is that this was already overly calculated into their handicaps by the end of last year. Last season in week 32 these teams played and it started out as a slow match with the 0-1 coming for cercle in minute 42 but Antwerp still winning 2-1 in what was an open 2nd half as Antwerp got behind. Cercle deserved more; Last year the line was -0.75 and now it is -0.5 so there was a reasonable adjustment. My main eye is on the 1H Over but I need to see the flow of the match before potentially getting in. I did take crypto bets on the 'more goals in 1H narrative' with just a 40$ bet on More Goals in 1H @ 3.15 on Rollbit and 3500 XFUN on Both halves similar goals @ 3.60 on xfun.bet.

AA Gent vs Kv Kortrijk

AA Gent looks like a dark horse to potentially take the title this season as a solid exciting team with tons of scoring power having Cuypers, Tissoudali, Orban in their attack and also Fofana. At the same time it's not a big secret and their total lines is set quite high with money coming in during the week which makes it hard to still bet it. They had a mid-week Conference qualifier match which they dominated and easily won against a smaller team. Kortrijk doesn't look all too special and by many are seen as a team who potentially will have to fight for the relegation. Especially in the offense they lack. At the same time, on paper they also aren't the worst team. The most likely scenario in this one just just a straightforward home win with at least 2 goals. This is one of those matches with a clear favorite and a high line which I'm not willing to get into just yet. No Pre-Game Bets

Club Brugge vs Kv Mechelen

Club Brugge had a bad preparation not looking all too good but they still have arguably the best squad in the league and did put up a good performance in their conference qualifier match. A bit similar to Antwerp, they pushed early getting the lead to more lay back focusing on not giving anything away after. It does feels like Club Brugge will me more like Antwerp and not as offensive with crazy high scores as Gent and Genk. Club Brugge traditionally has done really well in their fist home match of the season for a really long time but this trend hasn't really manifested itself in the past 2 years with an undeserved win against Genk last season and a 2-2 draw against Eupen the year before. Mechelen played the super cup and it simply wasn't good enough even though they somehow took a 1-1 draw away against Antwerp after 90 minutes. I still see them as a team that lack pure quality having to make up for that with fighting power which might work at home even against top team occasionally but it's hard to see them get anything away in Brugge. Similar to the match against Antwerp, the outright win odds on the home team are too low for me to take and given the styles of the top team I'm not willing to take a big handicap especially after the line moved already. So most likely in this match I will wait to see Club Brugge score some too early making me frustrated that I wasn't able to get in. In best case scenario, Mechelen takes the lead against play and it's possible to bet on Club Brugge turning it around or it staying even for some time to get in on a better line. No Pre-Game Bets

Sint-Truiden vs Standard

Sint-Truiden almost has an entirely new team and a new coach so they are a huge questionmark. At this point in time, I would say at best they are a midfield team and it's unlikely for them to be a revelation while I don't exclude them being involved in the relegation fight. Standard similar to Anderlecht is even more a former top team who lack overall quality and I don't think this will be any different this season. Deila performed a small miracle with this team last season so Hoefkens will have a difficult task doing similar work. Things however might click which could make them a real playoff1 contender but right now all of it for me is just pure speculation. The +0 line seems fair and given that both teams don't really have the biggest scoring power the 2.25 total line also seems to be set about right. So this is a match to basically get more information without taking any pure speculative gambles. No Pre-Game Bets
