A strong cyclone ravaged some remote villages causing huge landslides,
in Eastern Visayas particularly in Leyte and Biliran provinces last December 16.

"The typhoon Urduja was not really very strong even the winds. However, a cyclone and heavy rains which lasted for almost a week caused the landslides in many villages," said a resident in one of the affected areas. "We really didn't expect it would happen that way. Many homes were destroyed and families evacuated to nearby areas a few kilometers away from the affected villages.

Large portions of the mountains situated just above the villages with hundreds of homes gave way
hitting many homes of the residents of Leyte and Biliran provinces. Hundreds of people are left homeless as of today. Some landslides even covered a whole small barangay in Biliran province. This is a sad plight to face a new year.
