River Pollution : 3 Indian States Fined For Not Curbing Pollution In The River Ganga

The river Ganga (or Ganges) is considered holy by the Hindus in India, and a lot of talk about cleaning up the river has been doing the rounds in the past few years. The Ganga is considered the holiest and has now attracted one more controversy.

The Ganga is a river which flows from the Himalayas and flows through a few states within India before it drains into the bay of Bengal. And now some states through which the river flows, have been fined by the National Green Tribunal for not doing much to clean the river!

In fact, the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal have been imposed a penalty of ₹25 lakh each for not taking adequate steps to curb pollution in the river Ganga.
