Different ADHD drugs are taken illegally by students to help improve academic performance. Such drugs as Adderall, Ritalin, Vyvanse are all controlled substances and are typically given by peers or family members to these students. A study from the University of Rhode Island looked at the cognitive performance of healthy college students while taking Adderall. They found that Adderall may actually impair the working memory and is practically ineffective in improving cognitive functions. The findings are contrary to popular belief that these medications are effective in enhancing brain power.
