THIS IS BAD: FL Public School Teacher Has White Nationalist Podcast

in news •  7 years ago

This is not a free speech issue

A 25-year-old Florida social studies teacher named Dayanna Volitich gets "removed from the classroom" after it's revealed that she moonlighted as the host of a white nationalist podcast called "Unapologetic"

What do you think should be done with this teacher?

i think teaching politic or study in politics should relevant to study. but a teacher should not let their speech on politics in their classroom where in front of students those who dont know anything about politic or should be away from politics.

The school is right to investigate how much of her personal views she is teaching in class. She should be free to have those personal beliefs, but not to force them on her students. Is she teaching white nationalist ideas as fact or raising questions as topics of discussion or perhaps just being boastful to her podcast audience? That's what the school administration needs to figure out to determine what they should do about it.

absolutely and totally correct

I am totally on your side in this issue. There has a distinction to be made between free speech outside of a place like a school and according to American free speech she is totally allowed to spill this bullshit without fearing any penalization. But at the point where she admits to teach her own beliefs to children, especially when those aren't in line with what is acceptable in a public school space and what is required from teachers to teach, indoctrinating them, there has to be punishment and, more importantly, protection for the children.
I'd personally even go further as to taking her beliefs that she so openly advocates as reason enough to at least investigate how this might affect her teachings, though it should be strictly about her teachings and not her personal beliefs.

[selfadvertisement]To all those interested: I recently made my first post ranting about German schools and i'd love your opinions on it. It's just boring not to get different viewpoints :( [/selfadvertisement]

It would be refreshing to see fairness in honoring free speech. Being open and obvious about your politics in your personal life helps maintain objectivity in your professional life. I tend to be slightly conservative in my politics, but in my management career I worked with liberals who knew my politics which made me work extra hard to make sure my management decisions did not show any partiality toward people who agreed or disagreed with me. I was fortunate to realize early in my life that opinion diversity is essential to our human success and that surrounding yourself with people who think just as you do is a one way ticket to failure in life, in business, and in politics.

Well, someone like that should be suspended, or fired, as for one she can't give fair judgements on tests, won't educate fairly, and even spread this toxic idealism.

This is not fair every one should protest against them.

explain "them"... Or what you actually want to protest. Please, use the time to give an understandable opinion instead of this unclear rubbish.

Whoa. If this teacher is in fact teaching students about white supremacy and teaching to support white supremacy then she should be fired from her job as a teacher. It is not acceptable to teach about white supremacy in public schools.

Now a bit more unrelated: David, could you open the top button of your suite when sitting, please? It is really distracting as this causes the suite to look unfitting and also it damages the button. I just love suites too much not to see this...

actually, the traditional way to button a two-button jacket is to fasten the top button and leave the lower undone. that being said, it can be unbuttoned when sitting.

Actually, i didn't disagree to anything you said here. I know how a suite is meant to be fastened in the top button, but it's not a "can be unbuttoned" when sitting, it's a "should be unbuttoned" when sitting and that's all i'm referring to. You can see what i mean by looking closely at the area around the button in this video. the wrinkles show what i mean. it puts more pressure on the button and due to the wrinkles looks worse. Also the top part is kinda "ballooning" due to that, which makes it look to large for you. That's all i'm referring to and i guess if you take a close look you'll understand and agree.

I highly disagree with Mr Gandalf. Keeping the top button fastened makes your shoulders look broad. But to be fair, I listen to the podcast and seldom catch videos. So do what you need David.

This is pretty crazy but Florida has this type of thing. I grew up in Orlando and thought it was paradise until I began to think about it. We have the highest concentration of neo nazis in the world outside of Berlin. We have Casey Anthony, Trevon Martin, Gainesville killer, Pulse Nightclub Shooting, etc. I would say Paradise Lost for sure!

I don’t agree with her beliefs, but what’s the difference between her and a socialist/communist indoctrinating our children in the schools? Every teacher is going to have a belief system that will influence how they teach. Where do we draw the line? Do we mandate a system and churn out good little robots that all think the same? It’s about choice, expose the kids to all ideas, let the parents teach them right from wrong and hopefully they will make good choices.

She should not be teaching social studies - that's for sure! I don't doubt she pushes things like slavery had nothing to do with the Civil War and that most slave owners were "nice." How can she teach anything of value when her night gig is spouting hate? She needs to be able to help children think critically - like education should in general rather than just teaching to the standardized test, but that is another subject - and I somehow doubt she does that if these are her views. Yuck Yuck Yuck. I'd be protesting if my kid was in her class!
