Ooho, the edible water bottle

in news •  7 years ago

It is Ooho, a biodegradable and edible container that can be created in the home.

Inspired by techniques of molecular gastronomy, the Spanish Rodrigo García González and the French Guillaume Couche and Pierre Paslier designed this kind of 'bag' made a base of brown algae and calcium chloride. The layers of the membrane are achieved through a culinary process called spherification, whereby foods are encapsulated with textures of gelatin. Before packaging, water should be frozen to avoid mixing with the other ingredients.

The result is a simple, resistant, hygienic and biodegradable packaging, which proposes to replace the classic plastic bottles. Another characteristic is its low cost, since producing each 'bag' demands a couple of cents (unlike bottled water, where the most expensive PET is). According to its creators, the most skilled consumers can create them on their own and even try new recipes
