It will be necessary to manufacture 37,400 new aircraft in the next 20 years, estimates Airbus

The European aircraft manufacturer believes that these new aircraft should cost almost five billion euros and imply a need for 540,000 new pilots.

The European aircraft manufacturer estimates that in the next 20 years world demand will require the construction of 37,400 new aircrafts.

According to the latest edition of the "Global Market Forecast 2018-2037", the fleet of passenger aircraft will more than double in the next 20 years, to about 48,000 airplanes, with air traffic growing at a consistent pace of 4.4% per year.

This growth means the need for about 37,400 new passenger and cargo aircrafts, concludes the aforementioned Airbus study.

"The growth drivers that will drive this growth include the increase in private consumption in emerging economies to more than double, more disposable income and the near doubling of the middle classes globally. Emerging countries will account for more than 60% of economic growth, with the number of trips per capita multiplying 2.5 times more for these countries. Combined with the evolution of airline business models and ongoing liberalization, the scale of growth in air transport will lead to increased resilience in relation to regional slowdowns", said an Airbus statement. According to Eric Shulz, Airbus' commercial director, "there is a growing trend for aircraft to be used in a wide range of operations, with existing aircrafts currently pushing the boundaries between market segments".

"These realities have led us to develop a new segmentation with the 'Small', 'Medium', 'Large' and 'Extra Large' categories that better reflect how airlines operate the aircrafts", said Eric Shulz, Director Commercial Airbus.

"Thanks to the versatility of our models, the top-of-the-range of our single-aisle aircraft, the *A321neo, flies efficiently on long-haul routes, and our wide bodies, like the A330neo, also serve regional operations. We are very strong in this segment of the 'Medium' market", he says.

According to the statement, "Looking more closely at the four segments, in the 'Small' segment Airbus anticipates a future need for 28,550 new aircraft, which represents more than three-quarters of total demand forecast".

"In the 'Medium' segment, represented by small 'wide bodies' and long-range single-aisle aircraft, Airbus expects demand for 5,840 passenger and cargo aircraft", said Airbus, adding that "in the 'Large' segment, forecasts are for 1,760 new aircraft, while 'in the' Extra Large 'segment, Airbus expects demand for 1,590 aircraft over the next 20 years".

"Of the approximately 37,400 new aircraft required, 26,540 of them are for growth and 10,850 will be to replace older and less efficient aircrafts. The increase in the world fleet to around 48,000 aircrafts will result in a need for 540,000 new pilots", concludes the Airbus statement.

I always thought Boeing jets look better, but this A350 is pretty attractive.

Well, I hope they make intro to aviation easier than it is now if they build more planes lol.
