FREMONT — Three people were killed and five others injured, including an infant critically, in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 880 in Fremont late Tuesday night, authorities said.
The collision was reported about 9:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Stevenson Boulevard Calls about a reckless, speeding driver preceded the crash, said California Highway Patrol Officer Manuel Leal, adding that the same person is suspected of causing the collision. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana.
Three people including a juvenile were pronounced dead at the scene, Leal said. Five others were rushed to hospitals. Among them was an infant, who was listed in critical condition.
