It's estimated that more than 50 million people have already chosen to ride in an Uber to get to where they need to go.
Every single day, they're giving about 1 million rides in over 400 different cities around the world. At the moment, they've got a higher valuation than many well-known car companies that you'd be familiar with like GM or Ford.
Whether it's helping a group of teens get home safely after a night of drinking on the town, or helping elderly patients make it to their medical appointments, there are many reasons that people have been turning to this ride-sharing transportation option. One of the biggest pushers for many to consider this travel option has been cost, with many claiming that it's a far cheaper alternative to taking a traditional taxi to where they need to go.
One economist from the University of Kansas says that it's also helping to drive down the price of costly ambulance rides.
One organization that has been analyzing stats on this topic is known as Nemsis (the National EMS Information System) and they collect data regarding ambulance volume for the entire country. Slusky was able to use that data to see how Uber might be playing a role in offsetting some of the demand. They matched up the data for a variety of cities, looking at before and after Uber came around.
They noticed a clear change in per-capita ambulance volume for each city.
In the future, Slusky says that he sees a time when people will be able to call 911 and instead of having an ambulance sent out immediately to them, perhaps video chat with them first instead and assess whether an alternative ride option can be sent.
Overall, the hope is to improve not only the efficiency for the hospital and its resources, but also to improve options in the way of ride services in the market for consumers.

I remember a relative of mine being charged $800 for an ambulance ride years ago for a minor health problem and they didn't have insurance. Hiring an uber driver is a brilliant idea. Fall and break your leg? Pull up the uber app and have them take you to the hospital! My husband drives for uber. Not sure how he'd feel about it but I'd assume he'd be happy to help someone avoid the high ambulance fees.

"In the future, Slusky says that he sees a time when people will be able to call 911 and instead of having an ambulance sent out immediately to them, perhaps video chat with them first instead and assess whether an alternative ride option can be sent" That would be so cool and be so much more affective.
I used Uber a bunch during my time in London, Lisbon and LA. I think it's awesome!

Interesting! I wonder why Uber specifically is offsetting the demand on ambulances (ease of use for riders?) and why this wasn’t the case with regular taxi companies? I’ll check out some of your links—info is probably there.
Thanks for sharing!

Excellent post dear friend @doitvoluntarily the information is very topical and transcendent, all over the world these transport are really very expensive. Here in Argentina Uber is already operating and many private insurers and private clients are already implementing the transfers of their patients in these services, I have a close relative who deals with travel for insurers.
Thank you very much for sharing this information
I wish you a great day

Goes to show what we have achieved, and what we can achieve through good use of technology. Uber was such a great great idea. It is helping. It's operational in Pakistan as well, although I have always used Careem (a middleast based ride sharing service).
It's great to see what we are achieving with the help of great ideas!

What a great idea. I know how expensive it is for an ambulance ride having to use one recently. If I had an option like Uber I would definately use them. Thanks @doitvoluntarily

I work at a hospital, and have noticed that the number of ambulances and transportation services bringing patients to and fro has drastically decreased in recent times.. I was sort of wondering as to why this may be and the thought of ride-sharing co.'s popped into my head. Nice post here @doitvoluntarily you totally stole my idea lol jkjk keep up the fantastic work here on steemit :-)
