What is going on??

The one thing every article has in common is that there hasn't been a single confirmed case of Corona Virus at these institutions...so why would they take such unprecedented drastic measures?

There are many more articles, but that last one affects me directly as I have been supplementing my income as a DoorDash delivery driver and expected to have two more months of solid business.

The local economies of the cities who are home to these institutions are in real trouble having to weather two additional months without the students- the restaurants in particular.

And it's looking like NYC might go under lockdown:

So again, I'm asking, what is actually going on here? This is a plan, it's much too systematic and coordinated not to have been organized well in advance of yesterday.

I'm not one to panic, and as far as I can tell the virus is being sensationalized- no one under 50 years of age, or I should say no one with a healthy immune system has died from this. So why are they using this particular excuse to boot healthy young students?
